During their visit, the team inspected potential venues for the summit, which will have the theme “Reflections on 10 years of devolution: A call to actionable policy and legislation by the legislature.
The upcoming summit will focus on reflecting on the past ten years of legislative development, examining the achievements, lessons, and challenges in legislation, oversight, and representation roles of the County and National Legislatures, and enhancing the promotion and strengthening of devolution in Kenya.
The summit aims to bring together international, regional, national, and county legislators to share experiences and lessons in legislative development. The event will also provide a platform for mutual and collaborative engagement between the Senate, County Assemblies, Inter-governmental Relations Institutions, and other relevant institutions to devolution.
The summit will identify capacity and technical assistance needs for the legislatures, isolate challenges, and make recommendations to enable them to effectively fulfill their constitutional mandate of law-making, representation, and oversight within the framework of the devolved system of governance.
The summit will also include pre-summit events for women, Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs), and youth, as well as parallel sessions to consider CAF Chapters deliberations. The Fourth Annual Legislative Summit in 2019 consolidated gains made in legislation under devolution and built on experiences from previous summits.
