A delegation from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) met with a team from the County Assembly in a validation exercise of the ethnic and diversity audit report. This meeting aimed to review and endorse the findings and recommendations presented in the audit report.
The Commission had requested the Assembly to submit the report, which the Assembly promptly provided, leading to today’s validation exercise. This ongoing process is taking place in counties across Kenya, playing a vital role in promoting social cohesion and harmonious coexistence in a nation known for its diverse and multi-ethnic population.
This collaborative approach seeks to foster understanding, tolerance and the development of policies and initiatives that contribute to greater social cohesion in the region.
CPA Jane Waweru, the Assembly’s Ag Clerk, emphasized, “Our commitment to embracing diversity is not just a goal but a fundamental principle in our Assembly. We believe that by valuing and respecting the rich diversity of cultures and ethnicities in our region, we can build a stronger, more unified community for all.
“Nancy Mulu, the Commission’s Senior Resource Mobilization and Corporate Planning Officer, added, “Our validation exercise is a significant step towards strengthening the bonds of unity among Kenya’s diverse communities and we commend the County Assembly for its dedication to this cause.”
The NCIC’s ongoing exercise aligns with its mandate to promote equality of opportunity, good relations, tolerance and understanding among Kenya’s diverse communities. By working closely with county governments, the NCIC can address local concerns and develop strategies for conflict prevention and resolution. This ultimately contributes to a more inclusive and harmonious society.
Following an extensive discussion with the Assembly’s staff, the NCIC team commended the Assembly for its commitment to embracing community and cultural diversity. This recognition emphasizes the Assembly’s efforts to create an inclusive environment that values the various cultures and ethnicities present in the region, thereby promoting unity, tolerance and social cohesion.
