
Speaker Hon. Joel Maina Kairu today held a consultative meeting with officials from Uraia Trust and their partners Center for Transformational Leadership who paid a courtesy call to his office.
The discussions centered around the need to enhance public participation mechanisms and civic education in Nakuru County. Uraia Trust, led by its Head of Programmes Nancy Wamweya and Civic Engagement Manager Caroline Nyamu pledged their support to the assembly to help build capacity for its legislators and to undertake mobilization and civic education ahead of public participation forums.
Oh his part, Hon Kairu noted that the assembly was committed to the constitutional principle of public participation in all its legislation and budgeting. He called on all civic partners to join hands in the cause noting that a civically aware citizenship would result in good leadership. He further welcomed the partnership on capacity building for legislators noting it would directly impact the quality of laws passed by the assembly.
Uraia Trust is a civil society organization which works in the areas of entrenching constitutionalism, civic education and engagement, entrenching devolution, capacity building and facilitating public participation.
Also in the meeting was County Assembly Clerk Joseph Malinda and Center for Transformational Leadership head Bancy Kubutha.
