
Speaker Joel Maina Kairu with the Environment and Natural Resources Committee oversaw Governor Lee Kinyanjui assent to three Bills that will improve the livelihoods of Nakuru residents.They are; the Nakuru Climate Change Bill, 2020 Nakuru County the Solid Waste Management Bill, 2020 and the Nakuru County Water and Sanitation Services Bill, 2020.The Waste Management Act is set to regulate the management of various categories of waste, regulate the use of plastics and establish mechanisms for the participation of the private sector in solid waste management.The Nakuru Climate Change Act is aimed at putting in place a framework and mechanisms for mobilization and facilitation of county government, communities and stakeholders to respond effectively to climate change. The response mechanisms will be through appropriate adaptation and mitigation measures and action.While the Nakuru County Water and Sanitation Services Act is set to make provision for regulating water service providers, ensure compliance to set down water quality standards, control pollution in water bodies and related matters.Speaker Kairu urged the Executive to ensure there was adequate public awareness on the Acts before the implementation exercise is done.
