

Office of the Deputy Speaker – Nakuru County Assembly
The Office of the Deputy Speaker is established under Section 9A of the County Governments Act, 2012, which provides that each county assembly shall elect a deputy speaker from among its members, in accordance with the Standing Orders.
In the Nakuru County Assembly, the Deputy Speaker presides over plenary sittings in the absence of the Speaker. Where both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker are unavailable, the Standing Orders provide that a member of the Speaker’s Panel shall preside.
Functions of the Deputy Speaker:
- Presiding over sittings of the Assembly in the absence of the Speaker
- Enforcing the Standing Orders and maintaining order during proceedings
- Supporting the Speaker in managing the legislative business of the House
- Representing the Speaker when delegated
The Deputy Speaker is expected to act with impartiality and to uphold the rules, dignity, and integrity of the Assembly at all times.
