Thousands of residents across Nakuru County are set to benefit after the County Assembly approved the 2026/2027 Financial Year Budget worth KSh 23.56 billion. The budget prioritises education, healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure and agriculture, setting the pace for improved service delivery and accelerated socio-economic development.

The approved budget reflects the priorities raised by wananchi during public participation and underscores the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring public resources are directed towards programmes that improve livelihoods and deliver meaningful development across the county.

Speaker Hon. Joel Maina Karuri described the approval as a significant milestone in advancing the aspirations of the people of Nakuru.

“A budget is only meaningful when it changes lives. By approving this budget, the County Assembly has laid the foundation for better services, greater opportunities and inclusive development for the people of Nakuru. Our responsibility now is to ensure its faithful implementation through effective oversight and accountability,” said the Speaker.

Education received a major boost, with KSh 539.8 million allocated for bursaries and scholarships to support needy and deserving learners. The allocation includes KSh 220 million for bursaries administered from the headquarters, equivalent to KSh 4 million for each ward, KSh 20 million for the Governor’s Bursary Kitty, KSh 20 million for the Governor’s Scholarship Programme and KSh 279.8 million through enhanced ward bursary allocations. The investment is expected to ease the financial burden on families while expanding access to education.

The budget also strengthens youth and women empowerment through targeted investments in income-generating initiatives. It sets aside KSh 80 million for youth bodaboda empowerment, KSh 80 million for tents and shades for organised groups, KSh 50 million for salon equipment, KSh 30 million for meko equipment and KSh 16 million for other empowerment equipment. Several wards further enhanced their allocations by KSh 203.6 million to support community empowerment initiatives and sporting activities.

Healthcare received the largest allocation at KSh 8.15 billion, reaffirming the County’s commitment to quality and accessible healthcare. Other key allocations include KSh 1.99 billion for Education and ICT & e-Government KSh 1.16 billion for Infrastructure, KSh 899.8 million for Agriculture, KSh 866.3 million for Water, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, and KSh 812.3 million for Youth, Sports, Gender, Social Services and Inclusivity.

With the budget now approved, attention shifts to implementation. The County Assembly will continue to exercise its constitutional oversight mandate to ensure public resources are utilised efficiently and that the approved programmes translate into better services, greater opportunities and lasting benefits for the people of Nakuru.
